Traditional East Coast Pilates

 

How long has it been since you have done “grass hopper on the long box” or “squirrel on the Cadillac”.  Have you even heard of these exercises?  Perhaps you need a refresher course?   Then this course is for you.  The information covered will help you challenge your clients, enhance your repertoire and improve your teaching skills.

 

The course is taught by Certified Pilates Instructor and Pilates Certification tester, Thalia Thomas also the owner of Studio Soma.  With over 18 years of teaching experience both in the States and abroad, her knowledge of the Pilates Method is boundless. Thalia’s commitment to sustaining the purity and integrity of the traditional Pilates Method makes these courses highly respected in the fitness community.  Upon completion of each course you will receive a certificate of completion.

 

Proof of Pilates certification must be shown before registration is permitted.

Current liability insurance proof must be shown before registration is permitted.

 

Course Days and Time:

Saturdays         9:00am to 5:00pm                    7 hours

Sundays           9:00am to 5:00pm                    7 hours

 

 

Course Prices:

Each individual course is $395.00 due at time of registration.  Registration is required one week before course.  Course is subject to cancellation based on popularity and a full refund will be issued.

Medical Disclaimer:

 

Students must sign a medical waiver relinquishing Studio Soma and the instructor of the course of any responsibilities relating to physical injuries that may be sustained during the course.  Participants must also notify Studio Soma of any recent or current injuries.  Studio Soma has the right to refuse registration to any student who they feel is physically unfit to participate in the course.  All students must be physically fit to participate and perform advanced Pilates exercises.  No partial or full refunds will be offered.  If students miss part of the course, they will not be issued handouts or material covered during the course.

 

 

Course I           The Universal Reformer       14 hours

 

Outline:           

This course will cover the entire Universal Reformer repertoire from basic to advance.  Students      will get the

opportunity to practice exercises they have not done since their initial certification course.  The exercises will be

analyzed and correct teaching skills will be covered.  An emphasis will be placed on the traditional Pilates Method as

taught by Joseph Pilates.  The course will be a combination of lecture and practical.  Students will finish the course

with a broader repertoire of exercises to challenge their clients and vary their workout.

 

Material:       

Pictures of exercises will be offered and handouts.

You will need paper and pencil.

 

Attire:              

Workout gear.  Warm clothes for lecture time.

Course II        The Cadillac                           14 hours

 

Outline:            

 Students will learn exercises on the Cadillac from the traditional Pilates Method repertoire.  By the end of the

course, instructors will be able to give their clients a one-hour session on the Cadillac.  An emphasize will be placed

on correct teaching skills and injury prevention. The course will be a combination of lecture and practical.  Students

will learn advanced exercises to challenge dancers and athletes.

Pictures of exercises will be offered and handouts.You will need paper and pencil.

 

Attire:              

Workout gear.  Warm clothes for lecture time.

Course III       Chairs and Barrels                 14 hours

 

Outline:            

Students will learn exercises on the Combination Chair, Wunda Chair, Large and Small Barrel and the Spine

Corrector. The exercises covered are widely used by Physical Therapists to rehabilitate those with injuries

particularly to the knee, hip, shoulder, and upper and lower back.  This information will make instructors more

versatile and able to cater to the different changing needs of their clients.

Pictures of exercises will be offered and handouts.You will need paper and pencil.

 

Attire:              

Workout gear.  Warm clothes for lecture time.

Course IV       Pilates Mat Work                  14 hours

 

Outline:            

This course will teach instructors how to give a one-hour Pilates Group Mat class.  Group teaching skills will be

covered and the full Pilates Mat will be taught.  An emphasize will be placed on the traditional sequence, flow and

rhythm of the Pilates Mat work as taught by Joseph Pilates.  Instructors can also take segments of the sequence and

use it as part of their private sessions with clients.  Modifications will be taught for those with injuries to the lower

back and neck.
